Baby Quilt Size Guide
Baby quilts are one of the most popular beginner quilting projects. They are small enough to finish quickly but large enough to be useful.
Standard Baby Quilt Size
The most common baby quilt size in the United States is 36 inches by 45 inches. Some quilters prefer a slightly larger size of 40" × 48" or 42" × 54".
Fabric Needs for a Baby Quilt
A baby quilt top can often be made from one charm pack (42 five-inch squares) plus some background fabric. For backing, you will need about 1.5 yards of 44-inch fabric, or a single width of 108-inch wide backing fabric.
Batting and Binding
Use crib-size batting or cut a piece about 44" × 53" to allow overage. Binding requires about 175 inches of total strip length, which is roughly 5 WOF strips at 2.5 inches wide.
