Fabric Shrinkage Calculator

Fabric shrinkage is a common concern. This calculator helps you add shrinkage allowance to your yardage estimates.

Calculate your project

Formula

Pre-wash yardage = planned yardage × (1 + shrinkage percentage). Extra fabric = planned yardage × shrinkage percentage.

Example calculation

For 3 yards of fabric with 5% shrinkage, buy 3.15 yards to account for pre-washing.

Results are planning estimates. Always round up when buying fabric, especially for directional prints, shrinkage, fussy cutting, or cutting mistakes.
